| 9.11.2015- This is my first attempt at designing the front cover. This design is based off of my rationale. The only thing different from the rationale is the position of the necessary information, which I placed at the bottom of the page rather than at the top. This is because there was no room at the top, due to the size of the masthead.
Second attempt. I changed the colours of the cover-lines to different colours, as I felt that having them all the same colour looked too boring. I added a sub-title to the main sell-line to make reader's more interested and give them more information, as the 'artist' featured on the cover is quite new, so her name alone may not be recognisable enough for readers to be attracted to the magazine. I then added a shadow to the masthead, main sell-line, and its sub-title.
Third attempt. This time I decided I wanted to try and replicate this cover. I changed the colour of the background to lilac, moved the cover-lines, changed their colours and added shadows. I also moved the necessary information and changed their font and colour.
4th attempt. I added more cover-lines and necessary information.
5th attempt. My lecturer advised me to make the image and cover-lines larger, and to move the main sell-line and its sub-title to be directly on the model. I also made the barcode larger.
11.11.2015- 6th attempt. I decided to remove one of the cover-lines and add two more, so as to fill up the space on the right side of the dominant image.
18.11.2015- 7th attempt. I edited the lighting of the dominant image, changed the colour of the model's bubblegum so that it was more prominent, moved some of the cover lines, and added shadows to the necessary information.
30.11.2015- 8th attempt. I darkened the background, edited the dominant image to make it darker, removed a cover-line, changed the font of the cover-lines, and enlarged the main sell-line.
4.1.2016- 9th attempt. I lightened the background and added hand-drawn illustrations around the dominant image This makes the cover look more entertaining and interesting and also achieves a more DIY look, which is an aesthetic that is commonly used in independent culture magazines.
11.1.2016- 10th attempt. I changed the illustrations slightly and added a slogan at the top of the page so that Northern readers would be even more attracted to my product.
27.1.2016- 11th attempt. I moved the dominant image so that it was more inline with the centre. I changed one of the cover-lines and made it smaller, and increased the price of the magazine to £1.50.
1.2.2016- 12th attempt. I removed the illustrations as I felt that they were not consistent with the rest of the magazine nor were they appealing to my target audience. I changed the cover-lines and the font of the sub-title and added lines to make the page look more aesthetically appealing and to direct the audience's attention towards the model's face and the cover-lines. I made the dominant image smaller and deepened the shadows in the masthead, slogan and necessary information.
8.2.2016- 13th attempt. Following advice from my lecturer, I added sub-lines to make the cover more relevant to the region, changed the font of the sub-heading, made the masthead smaller, made the necessary information smaller and added a circle to indicate the price.
22.2.2016- 14th attempt. I raised the price, changed the sub-headings from italic to regular so they would be easier to read, and added an outer glow to the necessary information and tag-line so they would be more visible.
6.5.2016- 15th attempt. I felt that the original design for my cover did not convey the genre properly and was too feminine. To solve this I changed the dominant image, color scheme, sub-heading, sell-lines, font and layout.
