Billboard

14.12.2015- First attempt at designing a billboard. This design is based off my initial rationale. As you can see, it does not look very professional, so I will have to change it.

2nd attempt. I lightened the background, changed the main body of text and changed its font, changed the font of the necessary information and removed some necessary information as well.

3rd attempt. I rotated the image so it was at a tilt, changed the font of the main text and necessary information, and added some boxes around them as well.

4th attempt. I changed the colour of the background, made the name of the website regular italic (rather than bold italic) an added some lines to make the billboard more aesthetically pleasing.

11.1.2016- 5th attempt. I changed the layout to replicate this billboard for Vogue magazine. By replicating a professional billboard for a successful magazine I aim to achieve a more professional and appealing effect on my audience.

25.1.2016- 6th attempt. I changed the colour of the framing rectangles from brown to grey as I felt that brown was not an appealing colour.

27.1.2016- 7th attempt. I changed the colour of the framing rectangles to light grey and added shadows to the dominant image and a circle.

11.4.2016- 8th attempt. I changed the dominant image to what my cover currently looks like and changed the name of the website.

Double-Page Spread

16.11.2013- This my first attempt at a double-page spread. This is the design based off of the rationale flat plan. It looks ok, but still a little unprofessional.

18.11.2015- 2nd attempt. This time I changed the font of the masthead, added slugs and banners, and edited the lighting of the photos to make them match the aesthetic theme of the page.

3rd attempt. I changed the font of the text from Verdana to Times New Roman, as I felt that the previous font made the page look too amateur.

25.11.2015- 4th attempt. I changed the masthead to the name of the model and also changed its font from Double Bubble to Lace Dreams.

14.12.2015- 5th attempt. I removed some of the rectangles and replaced them with lines. I also moved some of the text and slugs.

4.1.2016- 6th attempt. I changed the font of the masthead to Magic Sound to be consistent with the front cover. I separated the images and added illustrations to them to match the other pages. I added some more text in order to fill up the dead space.

6.1.2016- 7th attempt. By using the lasso tool I separated the image of the model from the rest of the image so that I could edit her alone. The variety of filters makes the page look more colourful and entertaining.

11.1.2016- 8th attempt. I removed the filters, as I felt that they made the page look too childish. I changed the masthead so it was lowercase in order to make it match the front cover. I added the article credit and changed the font of the photo credit.

13.1.2016- 9th attempt. I decided to change the colour of the background to make the page look more colourful and feminine. To make sure the masthead and sub-heading could be read I changed their colour. I changed the font of the sub-heading to match the feminine style of the page, and I changed the font of the slugs so that there would not be too many different font styles on the page.

18.1.2016- 10th attempt. I adjusted the size of the background so that a white frame would be created around the main article and images. This is so that the slugs are more visible and so that the main article looks more compact and appealing. The white and pink also contrasts with each other.

4.2.2016- 11th attempt. I changed the colour of the background to purple to be consistent with the front cover's colour scheme. I changed the font and colour of the last line of the text so that it matched the sub-heading.

8.2.2016- 12th attempt. I changed the masthead, added a pull quote, changed the font of the sub-heading, added a drop-cap and reorganised the main body of text. I am planning to perhaps add sub-images, to add shadows to the masthead and to obviously remove the guidance lines.

10.2.2016- 13th attempt. I added more text so that any dead space was filled up, and added a sub-image.

22.2.2016- 14th attempt. I realised that the main body of text was not in line with the page rulers, so I moved the paragraphs so they would not overlap the pages when folded.

29.2.2016- 15th attempt. I removed the coloured dots as I felt that they made the page look too feminine.

6.5.2016- 16th attempt. My lecturer felt that the page looked too feminine, so I changed the colour scheme. I changed the font of the masthead to match the font used on the cover, changed the font of the kicker and pull quote to make the page look less feminine, and added a caption to one of the images to anchor it.

Contents Page

11.11.2015- This is my first attempt at a contents page. I based this design off my rationale. However, when put into practice this design does not have a good effect, as it has a lot of dead space and does not look professional.

16.11.2015- 2nd attempt. I decided to change the layout of the page radically from the original rationale. I added a banner to the masthead, moved the sub-images, changed the font of the images' captions, added a screenshot of the front cover, and changed the font of the necessary information.

3rd attempt. I added the name of the website, the page number, and banners. I changed the colour of some of the text and made the contents list italicised and bolded.

4th attempt. I removed some of the sub-images and moved the text into different positions, as well as adding more banners.

18.11.2015- 5th attempt. I changed the colour of the background and the font of the masthead and added a box around the main image.

14.12.2015- 6th attempt. I decided to change the design to this one as I felt that this looks more professional and matches the genre better than my previous attempts.

7th attempt. I changed the font of the slugs from Paradise City to Lumberjack, as I felt that the latter looked more professional. I removed the shadows of the slugs. I edited the dominant image to make it look more appealing.

4.1.2016- 8th attempt. I added illustrations to the dominant image to match the cover, and I changed the font of some of the text to one that looks handwritten to comply with the DIY aesthetic. I added some stripes in the corner to brighten the page.

13.1.2016- 9th attempt. Inspired by this image, I decided to change the layout of my contents page into one mimicking the style of a paper game. This layout is more aesthetically appealing and is easier for the reader to navigate.

18.1.2016- 10th attempt. I added some blue rectangles around the existing components to create a frame effect. This makes the page look more neat, compact, and appealing. I changed the font and colour of the page number so that it matches the other text.

25.1.2016- 11th attempt. I removed the images as I felt that they did not work well with the other components of the page.

27.1.2016- 12th attempt. I made the page number smaller and edited some of the text to make them fit in the boxes better and to add more information.

10.2.2016- 13th attempt. I edited the necessary information and moved the main body of text into the centre.

22.2.2016- 14th attempt. Following advice from my lecturer, I removed the frames and added shapes instead to make the page look less plain. To make the page numbers stand out more I bolded them.

9.4.2016- 15th attempt. Following advice from my target audience, I decided to organise the shapes into a system.

6.5.2016- 16th attempt. Following advice from my lecturers I added some more colors and images.

Front Cover

9.11.2015- This is my first attempt at designing the front cover. This design is based off of my rationale. The only thing different from the rationale is the position of the necessary information, which I placed at the bottom of the page rather than at the top. This is because there was no room at the top, due to the size of the masthead.

Second attempt. I changed the colours of the cover-lines to different colours, as I felt that having them all the same colour looked too boring. I added a sub-title to the main sell-line to make reader's more interested and give them more information, as the 'artist' featured on the cover is quite new, so her name alone may not be recognisable enough for readers to be attracted to the magazine. I then added a shadow to the masthead, main sell-line, and its sub-title.

Third attempt. This time I decided I wanted to try and replicate this cover. I changed the colour of the background to lilac, moved the cover-lines, changed their colours and added shadows. I also moved the necessary information and changed their font and colour.

4th attempt. I added more cover-lines and necessary information.

5th attempt. My lecturer advised me to make the image and cover-lines larger, and to move the main sell-line and its sub-title to be directly on the model. I also made the barcode larger.

11.11.2015- 6th attempt. I decided to remove one of the cover-lines and add two more, so as to fill up the space on the right side of the dominant image.

18.11.2015- 7th attempt. I edited the lighting of the dominant image, changed the colour of the model's bubblegum so that it was more prominent, moved some of the cover lines, and added shadows to the necessary information.

30.11.2015- 8th attempt. I darkened the background, edited the dominant image to make it darker, removed a cover-line, changed the font of the cover-lines, and enlarged the main sell-line.

4.1.2016- 9th attempt. I lightened the background and added hand-drawn illustrations around the dominant image This makes the cover look more entertaining and interesting and also achieves a more DIY look, which is an aesthetic that is commonly used in independent culture magazines.

11.1.2016- 10th attempt. I changed the illustrations slightly and added a slogan at the top of the page so that Northern readers would be even more attracted to my product.

27.1.2016- 11th attempt. I moved the dominant image so that it was more inline with the centre. I changed one of the cover-lines and made it smaller, and increased the price of the magazine to £1.50.

1.2.2016- 12th attempt. I removed the illustrations as I felt that they were not consistent with the rest of the magazine nor were they appealing to my target audience. I changed the cover-lines and the font of the sub-title and added lines to make the page look more aesthetically appealing and to direct the audience's attention towards the model's face and the cover-lines. I made the dominant image smaller and deepened the shadows in the masthead, slogan and necessary information.

8.2.2016- 13th attempt. Following advice from my lecturer, I added sub-lines to make the cover more relevant to the region, changed the font of the sub-heading, made the masthead smaller, made the necessary information smaller and added a circle to indicate the price.

22.2.2016- 14th attempt. I raised the price, changed the sub-headings from italic to regular so they would be easier to read, and added an outer glow to the necessary information and tag-line so they would be more visible.

6.5.2016- 15th attempt. I felt that the original design for my cover did not convey the genre properly and was too feminine. To solve this I changed the dominant image, color scheme, sub-heading, sell-lines, font and layout.
