Ideas for what my model could wear and how they could style their hair/makeup.

Reader Profile

From the research i conducted among members of my audience and the audience profiles developed from that data, I created a reader profile that presents the average behavior of my target audience. This will help me to decide what sort of content to write about, what type of pricing to have and other factors to make my product appeal to them.

Target Audience Research

I created a Facebook group page so that I could receive feedback directly from my target audience. From this feedback I learned that my target audience would rather read a Q&A rather than a large body of text as an article, the most they would pay for the product would be £2, and that there are no specific colour schemes that would put them off. I was already planning to do all of this in my product, but this research has confirmed that my creative choices are appropriate.

Target Audience Interviews

From these interviews conducted I learned that I should make my magazine priced between £0 and £3; I should have a Q&A for my main article rather than a large body of text; and that a lot of images are preferred, but not so much that it is too empowering. These are the ideas that I was already considering doing, but these interviews have confirmed my creative choices.

Image Research

Follow Selene's board Image Research- Covers on Pinterest.

Overall, magazines typically employ the use of 3-point lighting and have their images at eye-level, with the shot size ranging from mid-shot to medium close-up. Although some do subvert these conventions (e.g: The Crack), I will conform to them, as these conventions are the most effective way to attract my target audience.

Follow Selene's board Image Research- Contents on Pinterest.

For the contents page, magazines tend to have lots of images of varying shots and sizes. Fashion magazines have only one image in the contents page, and this image is usually a long shot . Music magazines like Mojo also have one image, and this image is typically a mid-shot. For my own contents page I may also follow the convention of having multiple images on my contents page, as it shows that my magazine contains a wide and varied range of article types. However, if this design scheme does not work aesthetically for me, I may revert to only having one image.

When it comes to double-page spreads, there is a lot more variety of images and image types. The most popular shots are close-ups, so I will do this as well.

Follow Selene's board Image Research- Billboard on Pinterest.

Many billboards typically have a simple colour scheme with little text and emphasis on the image. This is because the target audience is outside and on the move (whether by driving, walking etc.), so to appeal to my audience and make the advertisement easy to read and eye-catching I will have to follow these conventions. Billboards also normally feature images of their product, so I will do this as well.

Pitch Feedback

This is the feedback I received from my classmates about my pitch. The main piece of criticism I received was that I should include more information about my colour scheme and that I need to go into more detail about certain topics, such as my inspirational texts and my content.

Other Students' Work

I studied past A2 students' products. From them I learned that I have to make sure that I have a good colour scheme and layout, as these were the main problems that occurred across the magazines.
