Name of magazine: Eclipse. I chose this name because it is short and therefore memorable. It also has positive connotations, as an eclipse is a lunar phenomenon that rarely occurs. By naming my magazine after this event I imply that my magazine is of a high quality that can be rarely be replicated.
Audience gender: Gender neutral. This is so I can have a wide audience.
Audience interests and attitudes: My target audience is young people aged 15-23 of all genders. They will likely be students who are either unemployed or who work part-time, so they will not have a lot of excess money to spend. They also spend a lot of time on the internet, whether it is on social media, video streaming services, or for listening to music, so I should incorporate technology into my products.They are from the North East as well, so they will want to know about events that they can attend easily, and also artists from the region that will make them proud of their area.
Outlet: It can be purchased from newsagents, as these are near people’s homes and are a place where my audience will attend regularly.
Necessary Information:This will be things like the name of the website, social media accounts, and also staff/publishing credits.
Selling Point: It will be a cheap magazine about culture, and will also include a lot of special offers and discounts exclusive to readers.
Article topic: The main article will be about a young up and coming musician from the region.
Major conventions I will use: I will have minimalist colours, as that is what a lot of culture magazines have. I will also have simple fonts to match the minimalist theme and to make my text easily readable for my audience.
Conventions I may subvert or not use: I will try to have more cover-lines than usual culture magazines, as I do not want my cover to look too plain. I will also have an actual person as the subject of my cover, rather than an object.
Images: My model will be young and wearing smart-casual clothing. They will be looking directly at the camera, the shot will be a mid-shot and the lighting will be natural. Other images will be of varying subjects and at various shot sizes. The images on the double-page spread will have the same location and lighting as the dominant image on the front cover, although these images will be close-ups rather than a mid-shot. The sub-images on the front cover will be various shots of various subjects, as this will show that my magazine contains articles of varied contents.
Potential difficulties: Potential problems could be that the model is not available, the lighting will not be suitable, the location is not available or the images taken may not be appealing. If my preferred model is not available, or the images of them are not of a high quality, then I will ask a different person to model for me. If the lighting is not suitable then I will either pick a different time/location, or edit the images in Photoshop. If I cannot book a session in a photo studio then I will take the photos in my bedroom, as there is a plain white wall.
